EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
The MISSION of the Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is to provide basic and advanced life support providers able to respond quickly, minimizing pain, suffering and loss when emergencies occur, by delivering the highest quality emergency care to citizens and visitors Northampton County.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
The Department of Emergency Management (EM) coordinates efforts to ensure the County is able to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from any type of natural or man-caused disaster. The County uses an all hazards approach to emergency preparedness, which means planning efforts consider all types of natural and man-caused disasters that could occur in the County.
VOLUNTEER FIRE & EMS SERVICES
The Fire and EMS services of Northampton County are primarily provided by a dedicated group of volunteers, supplemented by career EMS employees. There are three (3) volunteer fire stations, two (2) combination fire & EMS stations and one (1) EMS station located in the County.
911 COMMUNICATIONS (EASTERN SHORE OF VIRGINIA)
The Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Communications Center is the public emergency answering point for the Counties of Accomack and Northampton. All 9-1-1calls are received by the ESVA911 Communications Center. Police calls are transferred to local Sheriff's Offices or the Virginia State Police for handling and dispatching. Fire and emergency medical services calls are handled and dispatched directly to fire and EMS agencies by the staff of the Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Communications Center.

EMT Academy:
We are starting our Fall 2024 EMT Academy on Saturday August 31, 2024. It will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 18:30 to 22:00 and every other Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00 until Saturday February 15, 2025.

Emergency Medical Service Provider
(Intermediate or Paramedic preferred)
Northampton County is accepting applications for Fulltime and Part-time EMS Providers of all levels (Intermediate or Paramedic preferred) in the Emergency Medical
Services Department.
This position salary pays up to $59,675 for Intermediate and $63,835 for Paramedic all based on qualifications.
Applicant must at a minimum possess the following: Commonwealth of Virginia- Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician certification, CPR, valid VA. Driver’s License with good driving record, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, and Hazardous Materials Awareness. Criminal Background check, physical and drug screening are requirements with this position. Additional information and an application can be obtained at the EMS Office or on the County website.
