How do I apply for a vacancy?

A separate Northampton County application is required for each announced vacancy by 5 p.m. on the deadline date. Position title and department location must be written on each application. Resumes cannot substitute the Northampton County Employment Application.

9-1-1 Communications Officer

The Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Commission is now accepting applications for the position of 9-1-1 Communications Officer. The qualified applicant will work rotating shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, as well as fill in shifts as needed. 9-1-1 Communications Officers are responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls, verifying the callback number and address of the emergency, determining the nature of the emergency and transferring the call or dispatching the appropriate emergency response unit as required, as well as other associated duties.

Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent, including some experience in keyboarding or typing. Applicants must be able to speak clearly and distinctly, understand and follow detailed directions, act quickly and effectively during emergencies, and operate complex telecommunications equipment. Desirable qualifications include two years’ experience in law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services, and/or public safety dispatching. Applicants selected for employment will be subject to a background investigation and drug screening.

These 30-minute sessions will help describe the position of a 9-1-1 Communications Officer and provide candidates with an opportunity to ask questions prior to applying. Real Estate Technician I

 

Northampton County’s Commissioner of Revenue is accepting applications for a full time Real Estate Technician I .
This position performs responsible skilled clerical work updating and maintain real estate records for assessment purposes; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. This position is responsible for updating and maintaining real estate records for assessment purpose; administering the land use and tax relief for the elderly/disabled program, the veterans tax relief program; assisting the public and maintaining records and files.

Requires high school diploma or GED. The salary for this position is $28,000- $30,000 plus benefits.

Under the supervision and guidance of the Northampton County Parks and Recreation Department Director, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for creating a high quality experience for every camper. Ensure the safety, well-being and personal growth of campers. Be an active and supportive member of the Summer Camp team and a positive member of the entire staff. Summer Camp counselors must demonstrate positive, professional role modeling at all times, acting in a manner that is consistent with the staff code of conduct and the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Northampton County Parks and Recreation Department.

Development Inspector

 

Northampton County is accepting applications for the full-time position of Development Inspector. This position is required to have expertise in several areas of law related to land development and conservation in Virginia. The principal role is to work cooperatively with land owners and their agents in complying with various code requirements while promoting economic progress. As such the inspector will have a full understanding of the laws and their intent so as to reasonably apply the standards to situations that arise from those proactively seeking permits for work and those who may have violated laws. In addition the individual must be able to serve as an advocate for proper development by a local constituent with several Commonwealth and Federal agencies. This is a field position which will handle all site inspections for zoning compliance and follow-up on zoning complaints and violations. Virginia Combined ES & C and Stormwater Inspector certification is required within twelve months of employment.

Requires high school diploma or GED and the equivalent of one year of college or specialized vocational training in land surveying, landscape architecture, environmental sciences, planning, civil engineering, or other related field. Also requires one year of related experience.
Excellent communication skills are essential.

Building Inspector

 

Northampton County is accepting applications for a full-time Building Inspector. The essential function of this position is to perform building inspections. Provides customer service and clerical duties.

Requires high school diploma or GED, supplemented by one year of experience in building construction. Experience as a building inspector is desired.

Requires valid Virginia Driver’s License.

Excellent communication skills are essential. This salary range $34,819 to $56, 285.

PLANNER/COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

 

Northampton County is accepting applications for a full-time Planner/Community Redevelopment Specialist. The essential function of this position is to provide planning technical support for the Planning, Permitting & Enforcement Department and the various board and committees. The position is responsible for assisting with planning, policy analysis, regulation enforcement, technical research and support, site/plan review, customer service, and related records and reports.

Requires Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field or at least three (3) years of related experience; valid Virginia Driver’s License; and AICP Certification or ability to obtain within two years’ of employment.

Excellent communication skills are essential. The salary range for this position is $51,750 to $83,699 based on qualifications.

Planner/ Community Redevelopment Specialist Job Description



Emergency Medical Service Provider
(Intermediate or Paramedic preferred)

Northampton County is accepting applications for Fulltime and Part-time EMS Providers of all levels (Intermediate or Paramedic preferred) in the Emergency Medical
Services Department.

This position salary pays up to $59,675 for Intermediate and $63,835 for Paramedic all based on qualifications.

Applicant must at a minimum possess the following: Commonwealth of Virginia- Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician certification, CPR, valid VA. Driver’s License with good driving record, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, and Hazardous Materials Awareness. Criminal Background check, physical and drug screening are requirements with this position.
