March 25, 2025 Eastville, Virginia- Northampton County is pleased to announce the hiring of Ellen Bowyer as County Attorney effective April 28, 2025.
Ms. Bowyer comes to Northampton from the Hanover County Attorney’s Office where she has served as Senior Assistant County Attorney since March 2021. She was also employed as Staff Attorney with the Virginia Access to Justice Commission from September 2017 to February 2021, and also served as County Attorney for Amherst County, Virginia, from July 2010 to June 2017.
Ms. Bowyer graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University with a M.A. in Urban Affairs and the William & Mary School of Law, ranking in the top 25 percent of her class.
In a statement, Board of Supervisors’ Chairman John Coker said, “The Northampton County Board of Supervisors is happy to announce that Ellen Bowyer will be the next County Attorney starting April 28. She will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position and we welcome her to the staff and the Northampton County community.”
