Northampton County Board of Zoning Appeals
The Northampton County Board of Zoning Appeals is a 5 member board appointed by the Virginia Circuit Court Judge. Each member serves a 5-year term.
The Board of Zoning Appeals is responsible for interpreting zoning map district boundaries where there is uncertainty as to the location of the district boundary and for hearing and deciding upon appeals regarding the administration of the Zoning Code. The Board also reviews and makes decisions on requests for exceptions into the resource protection buffer area for the minimum necessary to achieve a reasonable, buildable area for a principal structure and necessary utilities. ( see Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act )as specified by the Zoning Code. The BZA has the authority to hear and decide applications for variances from the terms of the Zoning Code. In addition, the Board of Zoning Appeals hears and decides on applications for appeal to the decisions of the Zoning Administrator.
Board of Zoning Appeals:
Meetings are open to the public and are held on the first Tuesday of each month at a time to be announced unless there is no case to be reviewed or due to a holiday conflict. Additional meetings are held as needed. Call to confirm. Board members are appointed by the Judge of the Circuit Court for Northampton County according to Virginia State Code 15.430.
