PUBLIC NOTICE

The Northampton County Planning Commission will meet and conduct public hearings on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Chambers located at 16404 Courthouse Road in Eastville, Virginia. The purpose is to conduct regular business and review the following applications and forward recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.

Minor SUP 2026-06: Norman & Vickie Smith are applying for a minor special use permit for a Single-Wide Mobile Home, a use requiring a special use permit in the Village/Residential (V/R) zoning district. The property is located on Jimmys Court, Cape Charles, VA and is further described as Tax Map 91B-A-74.

Minor SUP 2026-07: Michael & Marilee Maloy are applying for an after-the-fact minor special use permit to remodel an existing accessory structure to create an accessory dwelling unit, a use requiring a special use permit in the Agriculture/Rural Business (A/RB) zoning district. The property is located at 7278 Chesapeake Drive, Jamesville, VA and is further described as Tax Map 18C-1-M.

Minor SUP 2026-08: Scott Doverspike is applying for an after-the-fact minor special use permit for a chicken coop and chickens on a residential lot, a use requiring a special use permit in the Village/Residential (V/R) zoning district. The property is located at 3153 Socrates Lane, Cape Charles, VA and is further described as Tax Map 105A-7-8.

The application files may be viewed in the Planning, Permitting, and Enforcement Office in the County Administration Building, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or viewed electronically at Diligent Community Portal.

Public Notice

Notice is hereby given that the Northampton County Wetlands Board will hold a public meeting on Thursday, August 20, 2026, to consider and to hear public comments on two applications.

The meeting will begin at 8:00 AM with site visits to the affected properties, in the order in which the cases are listed below. The Board will reconvene at or around 10:00 AM that same morning in Board Chambers in the County Administration Building at 16404 Courthouse Road, Eastville, Virginia, for the purpose of conducting public hearings.

VMRC 2025-2593 REVISION: Joseph Mercer has submitted a revised application for a permit to construct an L shaped bulkhead with return. The proposed structure will consist of hot dipped galvanized hardware and marine treated timber. The property is located at 1870 Sand Hill Drive, Cape Charles VA, and is further described as Tax Map 104D-1-17 along the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay.

VMRC 2025-2814 VIOLATION: Duane D. & Deborah Smith will appear before the Wetlands Board for a violation hearing regarding discrepancies reported from the final inspection of permitted project, VMRC 2025-2814. Following review of the violation the Wetlands Board may take the following action: 1) Require submission of an after-the-fact permit application; 2) Impose a restoration order with time period for compliance; 3) Impose civil charges. The property is located at 2391 Picketts Harbor Drive, Cape Charles VA, and is further described as Tax Map 104-1-A1 along the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay.
