PUBLIC NOTICE
The Northampton County Planning Commission will meet and conduct public hearings on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Chambers located at 16404 Courthouse Road in Eastville, Virginia. The purpose is to conduct regular business and review the following applications and draft ordinance in order to develop and forward recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
Minor SUP 2026-09: Tyler Nonn is applying for a minor special use permit to construct an Accessory Dwelling Unit inside an existing pole barn, a use requiring a special use permit in the Town Edge-1 (TE1) zoning district. The property is located on Old Cape Charles Road, Cape Charles, VA and is further described as Tax Map 84-A-66B.
Ordinance 2026-002: The Board of Supervisors of Northampton County is proposing a Zoning Text Amendment in the form of an ordinance, 2026-002, with respect to short-term rentals. The proposed ordinance will amend §§ 154.2.003 Definitions and 154.2.120 Short Term Rental of Chapter 154.2 of the Northampton County Code and distinguish between owner-occupied short-term rentals and those where the property owner is not on site, specify the zoning districts within which each type of short-term rental can be permitted, require a minor special use permit for short-term rentals where no owner is present on site, revise and expand the performance standards associated with short-term rentals, and specify enforcement standards, including reasons for revocation of a zoning clearance or special use permit for a short-term rental.
The application files and draft ordinance may be viewed in the Planning, Permitting, and Enforcement Office in the County Administration Building, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or viewed electronically at Diligent Community website.
