The Northampton County Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Chambers located at 16404 Courthouse Road in Eastville, Virginia, to conduct a public hearing on the following matter:

Minor SUP 2026-06: Norman & Vickie Smith are applying for a minor special use permit for a Single-Wide Mobile Home, a use requiring a special use permit in the Village/Residential (V/R) zoning district. The property is located on Jimmys Court, Cape Charles, VA and is further described as Tax Map 91B-A-74.

Minor SUP 2026-07: Michael & Marilee Maloy are applying for an after-the-fact minor special use permit to remodel an existing accessory structure to create an accessory dwelling unit, a use requiring a special use permit in the Agriculture/Rural Business (A/RB) zoning district. The property is located at 7278 Chesapeake Drive, Jamesville, VA and is further described as Tax Map 18C-1-M.

Minor SUP 2026-08: Scott Doverspike is applying for an after-the-fact minor special use permit for a chicken coop and chickens on a residential lot, a use requiring a special use permit in the Village/Residential (V/R) zoning district. The property is located at 3153 Socrates Lane, Cape Charles, VA and is further described as Tax Map 105A-7-8.

The applications are on file and open to public inspection in the Planning, Permitting & Enforcement Office and the County Administration Office, both located at 16404 Courthouse Road, Eastville, Virginia.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Northampton County Planning Commission will meet and conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Chambers located at 16404 Courthouse Road in Eastville, Virginia. The purpose is to conduct regular business and review the following draft ordinance in order to develop and forward a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors.

Ordinance 2026-002: The Board of Supervisors of Northampton County is proposing a Zoning Text Amendment in the form of an ordinance, 2026-002, with respect to short-term rentals. The proposed ordinance will amend §§ 154.2.003 Definitions and 154.2.120 Short Term Rental of Chapter 154.2 of the Northampton County Code and distinguish between owner-occupied short-term rentals and those where the property owner is not on site, specify the zoning districts within which each type of short-term rental can be permitted, require a minor special use permit for short-term rentals where no owner is present on site, revise and expand the performance standards associated with short-term rentals, and specify enforcement standards, including reasons for revocation of a zoning clearance or special use permit for a short-term rental.

The draft ordinance may be viewed in the Planning, Permitting, and Enforcement Office in the County Administration Building, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or viewed electronically at https://co-northampton-va.community.diligentoneplatform.com/Portal/.
