Hunting Dates for Savage Neck, Magothy Bay, Mutton Hunk and ESWR

As you are likely aware, with this lovely fall weather also comes active hunting on the Eastern Shore. Regardless of where you are enjoying the outdoors this time of year, taking care and wearing blaze orange are highly recommended. There will be active deer hunting weekdays at Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve November 7th – 18th. Information is posted on the VDCR website and signs will be placed at the parking area indicating that the Preserve is closed to the public November 7th – 11th and November 14th – 18th.

 There will be active deer hunting weekdays at Mutton Hunk Fen Natural Area Preserve the last week of November and first week of December. Information is posted on the VDCR website and signs will be placed indicating that the Preserve is closed November 28th – December 2nd and December 5th – 9th.

Magothy Bay Natural Area Preserve now has active hunting to the south at the Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge. This is in addition to long-standing hunting at the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources property to the north, the Mockhorn Island Wildlife Management Area.

New as of July 2022, Sunday hunting is allowed on those state lands that allow hunting, including the DWR WMAs. However, the ESNWR is only allowing Sunday hunting for waterfowl.
